Gingerbread Houses and Patches!

For our last meeting before Christmas, we had some fun.  First I took a pic of the girls dressed in their winter gear.

While I was printing their pics, the girls worked on gingerbread houses.  We did this a few years ago but decided to do it again.

We assigned the girls each a bag of candy to donate and we split it up.

The pics were used to make ornaments.  It's them selling Girl Scout cookies in a cookie booth.

Cute right?

Then just like when these girls were Brownies, I took a pic of them with their houses.

Then we presented the girls with their patches that they have earned this year.  So far they have gotten drawing, entertainment technology, geocaching, the girl scout way, the junior aide, tree trimming, and caroling.

Great job girls!

Entertainment Technology!

For this meeting, we worked on our entertainment technology patch!
This was a fun one.
First we made sound effects using different items and the girls had to guess what the sounds were.

Some of the things we did were use gloves to flap to sound like birds flying, pouring rice into a pan to sound like rain, using paper to sound like footsteps walking through the snow, and using a lid to bang to sound like a bell.

Next, the girls had to use toilet paper tubes to create a roller coaster!  They loved this. They had to design it first and then use the tubes, cups, and tape to create it.

When they were done, we tested them with a marble.  They loved this!  It took up quite a bit of our meeting and we had planned to show them how to create an online game, or at least introduce them to it.  We only had time to show a couple of you tube vidoes on it and encourage them to work on one at home!

Christmas Caroling!

For the holidays, we went to an assisted living center to carol and make a Christmas craft with the people who live there.  We had a handful of girls show up.

First up was making an angel ornament/necklace using a paperclip. The girls scattered around to help and pass out the materials and show them how to make it.

Here is what it looked like.

Then we sang some songs for our song books.

Mr. Myers even came and had fun singing too.

The girls had fun spreading Christmas cheer to everyone and it made our new friends smile too!
