PetsMart!

As part of our pet badge, we headed out to PetsMart to learn more about all kinds of animals that can be pets!
First up, we went and saw the kitties.  Miss Summer told us all about how you can adopt a cat and how to take care of them.

The girls fell in love with the cats and wanted to take them all home!

Next, we went and saw the hamsters.

Miss Summer took one out so we could pet it and ask questions.

The girls thought it was pretty cool that they could pet it.

We looked at the guinea pigs too.

Then a dog came running our way and the owner was kind enough to let the girls pet her and show us some tricks.

After that, we looked and learned some about dwarf hamsters. Did you know that they can have 1-23 babies at one time?

Then we moved to the reptiles and lizard section.

Miss Summer took out a snake for the girls to pet.

And then we got to pet Pascal, a chameleon.

And even a bearded dragon too.

Then the girls learn about chinchillas.  They come from the Andes Mountains in South America.  They are kind of a mix between a rabbit and a big mouse.

They were pretty interested in the doggy daycare too.  Only a few dogs were running around,

Last but not least, we went and learned about fish.

I think the girls learned a lot and had a lot of fun.  They did learn that all kinds of pets take a lot of responsibility.

Pets! And the Take Action Project!

At this meeting, we worked on our pet badge!  I knew the girls would be excited about this as many of them are animal lovers.  First up, they got  to research a pet of their choice.  They got to choose from cat, dog, fish, bird, turtle, iguana, hamster, and even mice!  They had to research how to take care of it, what it eats, how to keep it clean, and how to keep it healthy.

For this meeting, the girls had to bring a shoebox and a small stuffed animal.

Oh yes, we did finish our Take Action Project as part of our Brownie Quest Journey! Each girl researched a famous woman who made a difference.  We put this information into a quilt square to combine all our patches to make a quilt.

We are pretty proud of our work and the quilt is hanging in the library at our school so we can teach others about these famous women!

Also, as part of our pet badge, we had to make a place for our pets to sleep.  So each girl got a piece of fleece and we tied the ends to make a pet bed.

The girls were very excited about this part!

The girls finished ahead of schedule so we watched a quick video on choosing a pet and the responsibilities that come with it.

Here are the proud pet owners.  Before they left our meeting, they had to sign a pet contract that stated they would take care of their pet for a week.  On the backside of it was a responsibility chart that they need to fill out.

This made us very excited for our next meeting....a field trip to PetsMart!
