Making Games!

Today was a super fun day at Brownies!  It was all about playing and making games!
(if you are wondering why the girls are dressed like this, it's because it is the 100th day of school and we dressed like we are 100 years old)

First up,we played a mystery game.  The girls each had to write 3 famous people that they thought everyone would know on index cards.  They got in small groups and taped some to their heads.  The other girls in the group had to describe the person taped to their head and guess who it was.  It is like the Headbandz game which is super fun!

We had everyone from Elsa,

To Abraham Lincoln,

To Helen Keller.

Next up was some scavenger hunts.  First the girls did a quick people scavenger hunt with our troop.  They had to find someone to fit a description and have them write their name in the box.

Next was a bigger scavenger hunt where they had to search the school for Brownie Elf and her clues. The girls really enjoyed this activity and we talked about how much fun they are to make.

After that, we talked about party games.  One game that we played was "Hot Potato."  The girls had fun with this game as well.

Then we moved to the gym where we talked about how we can change the rules of games to make them different, more fun, or just more imaginative.  So we took the ordinary game of "Duck, Duck, Goose." But instead of saying the words, they had to say the animal sounds.  They enjoyed this and had loads of fun making all the sounds. It definitely made it more interesting!  We talked about other games and how we could use our imaginations to make them more interesting.

Finally we talked about making our own games.  There are all kinds of games but for now we focused on board games.  The girls got to create their own board game.  We discussed how some games are trivia, action, singing, drawing, etc. It was up to them to make up the rules and fill in the blanks.  We had some creative minds in here when it came to this.  We had a little bit of time to teach each other our games and play them.

They are super excited to take these home and teach their families to play!

Cookie Rally!

This week was our first weekend back from winter break.  And January 1st marks a very important event in Girl Scouts...Cookie time!  SO at this meeting we had our own cookie rally!
We first watched a Girl Scout video about the kinds of cookies we sell and how to safely sell them.

Next we made dice so we could practice figuring out how much different amounts of boxes cost.

But we also had these cookie necklaces with a cheat sheet on the back helping us out.

The girls had fun making the dice.  One die was for how many cookies you were going to buy.  The other was for how much  money you had. Their job was to figure out how much change they should get back.

Melanie had her dice put together quickly so she could play.

Next we played a game where it tested how much  the girls knew about the cookies.  All kinds of "ingredients" were put into a bowl. They had a cookie and had to find the 4 things that make up that cookie.  They had fun playing this.

Next they got money and had to practice buying and selling cookies and counting money and giving change.

Next, we learned some fun cookie songs.

Then we had awards given out for cookie spirit.  The girls came to the meeting wearing the color of their favorite cookie.
red=Tagalongs
green=Thin Mints
yellow=Savannah Smiles
orange-Do-si-dos
purple=Samoas
pink=Rah Rah Raisin
blue=Trefoils

We wrapped up the meeting by writing some thank you's that we could put with our cookie orders when they come in next month.

We have about another week and a half to sell those cookies.  It is a very exciting time!
