Christmas Tree Decorating!

A week ago our troop joined with other troops from our school and had some Christmas fun!

There were older Junior and Cadette scouts there leading the fun.  First up was a game of "Do you wanna build a snowman?"

The girls had fun and the snowmen turned out adorable!

We had made ornaments prior to meeting so the girls were super excited to hang them on the tree at school!

We are so lucky to have such great girls!

After we took our turn decorating the tree, it was time to play some Candyland!

Then of course we got to have snacks and get tattoos!  This is our Daisy friend Olivia!

These are all the Girl Scouts of Wesmere!  That's a whole bunch!

We closed out the night by doing one big friendship circle.

Library Trip!

Last week our troop took a trip to the library. We just completed our Take Action project on encouraging others to read.  We met up with a librarian who was going to teach us more about books and teach us about the library.  (The girls showed up in P.J.'s because it was part of Red Ribbon Week at school.)

The librarian first us a story about the gingerbread man in the library.

Then she went through the Youth section explaining and showing us where different things were.

Then she brought us back to explain to us a scavenger hunt we would be doing.  It would help the girls become more familiar with locating books in the library by using the Dewey Decimal System.

The girls had so much fun locating different books.  Most of them didn't finish the hunt but they got to take this sheets with them to bring back and finish another time.

Thank you Joliet Public Library!

Take Action Project!

A couple of weeks ago, our troop was working on our Take Action Project as part of our Brownie Quest Journey. We decided to do a project that involved books and reading.  We came up with the idea of encouraging others to read by decorating pumpkins as book characters which we could put in our library for the school to see!
First we wrote letters to our principal, assistant principal, and librarian.

Then the girls got busy decorating.  Each one brought in their favorite book and brought some supplies to make their pumpkin come to life.

Here are the final products!  We had great books-princess, Frozen, Junie B. Jones, Molly Lou Melon, Sister Bear, Spongebob, Sam I Am, Goldilocks and more!

The girls were so excited to put them in the library. They stayed there for about a week and then the girls got to take them home to enjoy for Halloween!

Campfire and Sing-a-Long!

Last weekend, we had great plans for having our troop get together for a campfire and sing-a-long.  Well, the weather didn't exactly cooperate but we made the best of it anyways.
First up, we made sit-upons.  This was something Holly and I were super excited to do from the start. They were easy to make.  We bought tablecloths and cut them into squares.  We hole punched around the square and had the girls take straws to finish punching out the holes.  When they were done, we showed them how to take yarn and lace around it.  As you can see, the girls enjoyed this.  We stuffed them with newspapers so that they were comfy when we sat upon them!

We were even lucky enough to have some extra helpers.

The sit-upoons took some time but we managed to get everyone's done!

Since it was rainy outside, we sat on our sit-upons inside and all the girls received song booklets.  We taught the girls all kinds of fun songs.  We sang "Herman the Worm", "Boom Chicka Boom", "The Princess Pat", "Bubble Gum", "The Bear Song", and even some we already knew like "Make new Friends."

The girls really liked the songs and I had fun teaching them all the songs we used to sing as scouts as well!

And again since there was no campfire, we still had s'more, they just weren't cooked.

Yum!  It was a fun night.  We will try another campfire in the spring!
