Staying Fit!

So the girls decided to move into the direction of earning some patches. So we started with an energizing one....staying fit!
To start, we started by warming up with  some lunges.

We warmed up our arms too.

We did some leg exercises.

And did some push-ups.

Then we watched a short video on eating healthy.

We made "my plates" where the girls created a healthy meal using the healthy food groups that they learned about.

We then tried a calming exercise by doing some yoga.

But then we headed to the gym to get our heart rates up.  We played this game where there were hula hoops around the gym.  The girls would run laps around the gym until we yelled "stop."  Then they had to find a hula hoop and there was an activity in each hula hoop that they had to do.

Some had to do toe touches.

Some had to do high knees.

Some did jumping jacks and some did squats.

This quickly wore them out but we taught them one more exercising activity that they could take home. It's called Fitness Uno.  You divide into teams and pass out the cards face down.  Based on the color, depends on what kind of exercise the person who turns over the card does.  The number is how many reps you do.  The first team to get through all their cards wins!

We tried it and it was tiring but so much fun!

Hope the girls taught their families this fitness game!

First Junior Meeting!

Well I know I am WAY behind with posting about our meetings this year. But now I am ready to catch up! We kicked off our first year as Juniors by discussing what direction we wanted to head in.  The girls filled out sheets like this.

We brainstormed things we want to do with our cookie money and trips that we want to take.

We also reviewed the Girl Scout law and promise.

I talked about some of the journeys that we can take as Juniors.  There are 3 of them:  Amuse, Get Moving, and Agent of Change.

We played little games that gave us a peek into what that journey might be like.

With the Get Moving journey, we played this dance game that had us up and moving.

With the Amuse journey, we acted out what we want to be when we grow up.

We also broke the girls up into patrols and had them create a poster talking about which direction we should move to and what trips they might like to take.  We talked about getting a troop crest as well and they voted on the troop lei.

The girls decided that they would like to earn some patches first so that is the direction we headed in.

What a great group of Juniors we have here!

Bridging to Juniors!

Last week our Brownie Troop bridged to Juniors!
We had a whole thing set up!
Each girl was going to get their scrapbooks that we made at our last meeting filled with pictures of our 4 years in scouting!  They

They also got their bridging certificate, patches, and some Junior Mints since they are now going to be Juniors!

When we bridged to Brownies, we climbed out of an oven.  This time we booked the bridge.  And what it really neat is that it is the same bridge Holly and I bridged on when we were young scouts!

We bought all the girls Junior vests too!

Mr. Nick, our custodian, made this cool sign for us.

We had snacks too like brownies and Girl Scout cookies!

Gracie and Jackie have been in scouts for 4 years already!

We did an opening flag ceremony and then watched a slide show that I put together of all of our meetings over the years.  The girls had no idea and they loved it!

After that, we read a poem about Girl Scouting.

Then it was time to bridge.
