Flowers!

At this meeting, we learned all about flowers to earn our flower patch!

We watched a short movie about flowers first.

Then we learned and sang a song about the parts of a flower.

The girls thought this was fun.  We also teamed up with my Daisy troop to do this.

Then we actually had different parts of a flower using vegetables.  The girls got a plate full and had to make a flower using the vegetable as the different parts.

They got it pretty quickly. The carrots were the roots.  The celery was the stem.  The lettuce were the leaves and the broccoli and the cauliflower were the flowers. We also had sunflower seeds as seeds.

The girls thought this was fun and then they got to eat it! What a nice healthy snack!

After that, we researched different types of flowers to teach each other about them.

At the end of the meeting, the girls even got to choose a flower to take home!

First Aid!

With our Key Lime Cove trip coming up and summer too, we figured it might be a good idea to learn a little first aid. We did this as Brownies but now as Juniors, we are older and have a bit more to learn about it. So we invited Marin's mom, Mrs. Colton in to teach us about it. She is a nurse so she is a pro! She talked to us about different things that are used when administering first aid.  She told us about calling 911.

We talked about different scenarios and what we should do if ever in that position.

We even made our own first aid kits!  They were filled with bandaids, gauze, tweezers, a handkerchief, and more.

The girls thought this was pretty great.  We made smaller ones as Brownies that were little necklace ones and the girls all wore them to school.  These are in Tupperware containers and would be great to keep in the car or take with in a bag if going somewhere.

Then Mrs. Colton had the girls act out different scenarios.  She gave the situation and had one person be the victim and the rest be the people who needed to help.

Thank you Mrs. Colton!  The girls learned a lot!

Detective!

We finally got back to working on some patches. We worked on the Detective patch. This one was so much fun! First we worked on the art of observation.  The girls had to look at these pictures for 1 minute.  Then I collected them back and they had to write down as many as they could remember.

Next we talked about fingerprints and made our own fingerprint ID cards.

We talked about how everyone's fingerprints are different.

Next everyone took their index finger and printed it on a card.  We had to use their ID cards to match up whose fingerprints were whose.

The girls really loved this part!

We even got out the magnifying glasses to get a better look.

Next we made teeth impressions using a Styrofoam plate.

The girls did not think this was as cool as the fingerprints.

But then again we tried matching these impressions with some mystery ones.

Next we put our fingerprints all over a mirror and dusted them with baby powder to see how investigators uncover fingerprints.

And last I read a mystery story and the girls had to use clues to figure out who was the thief.

This was a really fun meeting!
