Tree Trimming!

For years all the Wesmere Girl Scout Troops would get together and decorate our school Christmas tree and have some holiday fun!  This year our troop offered to host it!
The girls got busy planning stations for them to run for the other troops.  They were so excited!  With a little help from Mrs. Held and I, they were off!

We added a last minute station of making Christmas trees using waffle cones to have as a snack.  Mrs. Held was in charge of this one.

Melanie and Jenny were in charge of the ornament making station.  They decided to use toilet paper tubes to cut into trees.  We precolored them green.  The girls got to cut and decorate the trees and secure it with a paper clip for easy hanging on the tree.

Gracie, Jackie, and Meryn were in charge of a game.  They chose a game where the girls had to draw holiday pictures on a paper plate but on their heads!  It was a fun game that everyone loved.  When the game was over, they played Christmas version of "Simon Says" called "Santa Says."

Evy, Emma, Melaina, and Addie were in charge of another craft that the scouts could take home with them.  They made silver bells out of egg cartons.  When they were done, they took control of hosting a little dance party.

Kate, Marin, and Allison were in charge of another game.  It was the snowman wrap game using toilet paper.  We brought in scarves, hats, and mittens to put the finishing touches on them. They did great at putting the scouts in groups and getting the game going.

There were so many troops there that we rotated 6 times!

At the end, we got in a big circle and sang a couple of Christmas carols.

The girls led everyone in "Jingle Bells", "Rudolph the red-nosed Reindeer", and "We wish you a merry Christmas."

These are all the scouts that came to our event!

Our girls did such a great job!  We are so proud of them and they had a lot of fun too!
Afterwards we let them make a tree to eat.

Then we took a picture with our troop by the tree.

These girls have come so far!  I am so proud of them!

Planning an Event and a Reminder!

At this meeting, we learned that we were going to be the ones hosting the annual tree trim event that we do here at our school.  It's where all the troops at our school gather together and decorate our school's Christmas tree.  We've been part of it the last several years but this year we offered to host since we are now the older girls.  We preselected games and crafts and let the girls go from there.  They split themselves up into groups to get planning. Some girls planned a craft.  Some girls planned an ornament to make, and the rest planned some games to play.  We were inviting all the troops and then rotating around.  The girls were so excited and got planning right away.  They had to choose what they were going to do, make a shopping list, and make a poster for their station.

We also received an email from a family friend of one of our scouts.  Their son was sick  and they stayed at a Ronald McDonald House and they wanted us to know why it was so important to them and why they are so grateful that we are doing our project.

It was an exciting and uplifting meeting!

Drawing!

For this meeting, we worked on our drawing patch.  We had our art teacher Mrs. Delair come and do it with us.  She brought in some gords and we had to sketch them. We got to  use charcoals to help too. She taught us all about shading.  We worked on these still life pictures first.

Then we talked about graphic design and came up with our own designs for our troop.  Check them out!

They all had such great ideas and reasons why they drew what they drew.  It was very meaningful.

Thank you Mrs. DeLair for coming and doing this with us!
