3 Cheers for Animals!

I apologize to anyone reading this....I haven't been able to post pictures from our Daisy meetings as I recently moved and just got internet.   I wanted to recap a couple of our last meetings. This meeting took place back in April and we were working on our 3 Cheers for Animals Journey.  We started our meeting by doing some animal yoga poses.  It was so much fun.

We talked some more about how to care for animals and then we used flower pots to make birdbaths.

The girls had fun painting them and the pots sit upside down and then the saucer goes on top and you can put water in it for a bird bath.

We also made ladybug snacks.  We cut up apples and stuck raisins on the back for spots with peanut butter and then pretzels for the antenae.

Animal Control!

Our Daisy Troop went on a field trip the other day. We went to the Joliet Animal Control.

The girls were pretty excited about this.  We started our Animal Journey patches so this fits in nicey.

First they read us a story about pets by Dr. Seuss.  Then we talked about how to take care of pets.

The we got to go see the cats.

This place is very near and dear to my heart as I have adopted 3 cats from here.  My cats at home that I have, Hazel and Millie, looked exactly like these two precious kitties here.

This is the room that the sick cats and dogs are in so that they can get better.

Here is the room that filled with animals that were recently picked up.  They still need to be checked out by a doctor.

Here is the dog room.

The girls are looking at the smaller dogs.

We went out again to review the rules of playing with cats and dogs.

The girls split up to play with some animals.  These girls wanted to play with the cats.

I wish we could adopt them all.  I think the girls all left wanting to adopt a cat or dog too.

But they sure had fun playing with them!

Thank you Joliet Animal Control!  We had a great time and we learned a lot!

Thinking Day 2014!

Today was a big day in the land of Girl Scouting....
Thinking Day!
It's a day where Girl Scouts come together and learn about other countries.  Our troop picked the country of Norway.  I know a lot about Norway, I'm Norwegian, and my mom has been there so we have plenty of things to show the girls.  The girls had fun learning some fun facts about Norway.  We were impressed by what they remembered. They helped us make the backboard and we made SWAPS, things to hand out to the other scouts that come visit our booth.

The girls made little suitcases and passports to take with them. We had it at the Wesmere Clubhouse with 5 other troops.  Each troop presented a different country, brought a snack from that country, and played a game of some sort or made a craft.

It was pretty neat and our girls were super excited!

We had an opening ceremony.

Here's all the Girl Scouts from just our school!

And that's not even all the troops! Some were not there.

Here is our booth with Mrs. Held talking about Norway.

Our girls were great about sharing what they knew about Norway too!

Some of the other coutries represented were Australia.  They made kanagaroos out of toilet paper tubes.

There was Ghana.  They made some sort of tribal ink print.

Our girls having fun making wind socks.

Switzerland was there.  They brought some yummy fondue.

Ireland was there with some good luck SWAPS.

Great Britain too.

We opted to tell a story as our activity.  We shared the Norwegian folktale of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" and we had masks for the girls to help act it out.

Everyone had a great time and learned so many new things.

We are already talking about what country we should do for next year!
