Thinking Day 2014!

Today was a big day in the land of Girl Scouting....
Thinking Day!
It's a day where Girl Scouts come together and learn about other countries.  Our troop picked the country of Norway.  I know a lot about Norway, I'm Norwegian, and my mom has been there so we have plenty of things to show the girls.  The girls had fun learning some fun facts about Norway.  We were impressed by what they remembered. They helped us make the backboard and we made SWAPS, things to hand out to the other scouts that come visit our booth.

The girls made little suitcases and passports to take with them. We had it at the Wesmere Clubhouse with 5 other troops.  Each troop presented a different country, brought a snack from that country, and played a game of some sort or made a craft.

It was pretty neat and our girls were super excited!

We had an opening ceremony.

Here's all the Girl Scouts from just our school!

And that's not even all the troops! Some were not there.

Here is our booth with Mrs. Held talking about Norway.

Our girls were great about sharing what they knew about Norway too!

Some of the other coutries represented were Australia.  They made kanagaroos out of toilet paper tubes.

There was Ghana.  They made some sort of tribal ink print.

Our girls having fun making wind socks.

Switzerland was there.  They brought some yummy fondue.

Ireland was there with some good luck SWAPS.

Great Britain too.

We opted to tell a story as our activity.  We shared the Norwegian folktale of "The Three Billy Goats Gruff" and we had masks for the girls to help act it out.

Everyone had a great time and learned so many new things.

We are already talking about what country we should do for next year!

Getting Ready for Thinking Day!

We've been meeting a lot lately to make up for some lost meeting time due to snow days! We have Thinking Day coming up.  All the troops at our school are getting to together to celebrate.  Each troop picks a country and gets to research it, make a poster, share information, make a SWAP, and present a game or story.  We chose the country of Norway!  The girls learned some neat and interesting facts about it and helped decorate pictures to go with the facts.

Then we showed them a short movie of a folktale from Norway called "The Three Billy Goats Gruff." We are going to do a readers theater of it as part of our presentation.

Mrs. Held hepled get the SWAPS ready and the girls helped make some.

Here is our board that the girls had a part in.  We even found some cool information about Girl Scouts in Norway.

Here are what are SWAPS look like.  We need to make enough to give to all the scouts coming. This represents important things to Norway the beads on the pin represent the colors of their flag.

Then we had the girls pick some characters from their scripts and practice their reading of the 3 billy goats.

They are excited!

Girl Scout Cookie Time!

We've been busy Daisies lately as we sold over 1,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies!
At our last meeting, we worked on earning all of our leaves:  Money Counts, Count it Up, Making Choices.  We talked about what we want to do with our cookie money. We worked with counting money as we are going to have a cookie booth where we will be selling cookies at a store!  We made posters to advertise.

The girls had fun and the cookies get picked up next week!
