Horseback Riding!

For a long time, the girls have been wanting to go horseback riding....so today we finally went!
We went to the Normantown Equestrian Center.  The girls first learned a little bit about horses first such as what they look like when they are feeling happy, mad, worried, sleepy, etc.

Then we learned about how to groom a horse and all the tools you use to do that.

The girls got put in groups and they got to practice grooming their horses.

Then after all they all had a chance to groom and pet the horses, it was time to saddle them up.

Then while we took turns riding them, we got to explore the barn and pet some of the horses.

I tried to get a picture of all the girls on a horse ride.

Here is Emmaline.

Hiking!

Yesterday we earned our hiker patch by going on hike! We have a nice little trail by our library so that's where we went.  We had trail mix as a snack and a scavenger hunt too.  We were off!

It ended being a beautiful day for a hike.

The girls had fun collecting items on their scavenger hunt.  We even found parts of a snake!

The trail was very nice and even had a couple of bridges on it.

The girls thought that every time they saw a bench, it was time to rest.

But we did find a lake and the girls had fun skipping stones.

Eventually we made it back.  I think we wore them out!

Snacks and Senses!

Sorry, I got a few meetings behind.
At our earlier meeting this month, we earned our Snack and Senses Patch! Both of these patches can work easily with each other so that's what we did.
I set up snack stations to create different kinds of snacks.  We had our sweet station with Nilla Wafers and frosting and then M&M's for decorating.

We had our sweet and salty station where the girls made their own tortilla pizzas.

We also had snack for energy which included celery sticks with peanut butter and raisins.

The girls were paired up in stations and got to work making some yummy snacks.

This part served as our taste test also for the Senses patch.

Next, we did a smell test.  (We forgot about the hearing test)

I walked around with containers of different things in them. The girls couldn't see what was in them but they had to guess what they were based on the smell.  The smells included vanilla lotion, peppermint car freshner, coffee, nail polish remover, cinnamon, and maple syrup.

We also had to make a drink for our Snack patch.  So we made strawberry smoothies!

As a final touch on our Senses patch, we wrote our names in Braille using googly eyes for the dots.  This give them a taste of touch without using sight.

It was yummy and fun meeting!
