Planning an Event and a Reminder!

At this meeting, we learned that we were going to be the ones hosting the annual tree trim event that we do here at our school.  It's where all the troops at our school gather together and decorate our school's Christmas tree.  We've been part of it the last several years but this year we offered to host since we are now the older girls.  We preselected games and crafts and let the girls go from there.  They split themselves up into groups to get planning. Some girls planned a craft.  Some girls planned an ornament to make, and the rest planned some games to play.  We were inviting all the troops and then rotating around.  The girls were so excited and got planning right away.  They had to choose what they were going to do, make a shopping list, and make a poster for their station.

We also received an email from a family friend of one of our scouts.  Their son was sick  and they stayed at a Ronald McDonald House and they wanted us to know why it was so important to them and why they are so grateful that we are doing our project.

It was an exciting and uplifting meeting!

Drawing!

For this meeting, we worked on our drawing patch.  We had our art teacher Mrs. Delair come and do it with us.  She brought in some gords and we had to sketch them. We got to  use charcoals to help too. She taught us all about shading.  We worked on these still life pictures first.

Then we talked about graphic design and came up with our own designs for our troop.  Check them out!

They all had such great ideas and reasons why they drew what they drew.  It was very meaningful.

Thank you Mrs. DeLair for coming and doing this with us!

Working on our Bronze Award!

So we started last year working on our Bronze Award.  We are going to take over the pop tab collection at school and work with the Ronald McDonald House.  In order to kick this off in the new year, we had to do some things.

Some of our girls worked on putting together a power point explaining why collecting pop tabs are important and why we are collecting them. This will be sent to the teachers to show their classes.

We had some girls working on fliers for hanging up around school to promote collecting pop tabs.

We had some girls designing cans to collect the tabs.

And lots more of the girls joined in on making more posters.

We are hoping to kick it off in the new year and we even made a video like an infomercial for the teachers to show their classes and for us to show our families.

Geocaching at Settlers Park!

So our new love for geocaching has lead us to Settlers Park in our town.  We brought our kindness rocks to hide around the park for others to find and inspire kindness.

So before we hid our rocks, we had to read all about the history of Plainfield in order to get the coordinates to find some geocaches in the park.  It was neat.

The girls went around and read the signs.

Then we started hiding some of our rocks along the way.

Once we thought we had the coordinates, we tried to find the geocaches.  We used the app to help us too.

We weren't having any luck but we were still having fun hiding our kindness rocks.

The girls were very determined to find some but sadly we never did.

We did get a really awesome picture of the troop though!

Love these girls!
